Unemployment Day 58

  1. Took Anna to school.
  2. Stopped at Costco for gas.
  3. Went to Starbucks.
  4. Got the last of my grades for the semester. By my math, another 4.0!
  5. Did some Perrigo work for Dr Zeller.
  6. Emailed back and forth with Nancy at Perrigo. She and I used to work together in the Research Department back when WMed was still KCMS. She and another former KCMS colleague are planning lunch on Saturday and wanted to extend the invitation. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I’m hoping to make it. It will be nice. Haven’t seen either of them in ages!
  7. Came home.
  8. Watched this week’s Spring Baking Championship. Anyone who is watching the finale next week when it airs, please don’t spoil it for those of us who will be streaming later! (I may have to avoid social media until I get a chance to see who wins.)
  9. Cleaned up the kitchen.
  10. Wrote a grocery list.
  11. Tried to clean up my podcasts. I don’t know what button got pressed at NPR today, but a slew of old episodes of multiple NPR podcasts reappeared in my feed. I’ll be scrubbing a lot of episodes!
  12. My mom picked me up.
  13. Stopped at the credit union to deposit a check.
  14. Went grocery shopping.
  15. Came home.
  16. Dinner, screen time, snuggles, and bedtime stories.
  17. Anna is now listening to L’il Abner and coloring a picture for Aunt Ret.
  18. I’m going to watch Les Miserables. At least I know that there’s no tooth-pulling scene this week… That was hard to watch last week. Not that I exactly watched that scene. I’d have hidden behind the sofa for it if that were a possibility… And then my book. How far did I say I was in yesterday? I should have said 300 pages, but I think I said 200. Elizabeth George is wordy, but I never find her books to be too long…

Unemployment Day 57

  1. Took Anna to school.
  2. Came home.
  3. Did the New York City Ballet Workout. I had forgotten how long that one is. I love it. I’m not sure how much non-dancers or beginners would like it, but I love it. I think I’ll feel it in the morning. Haven’t done a barre in a while.
  4. Showered.
  5. Messaged a friend about a job possibility. It’s one that’s higher on my list than today’s interview, but I also have had silence from the company for two months even though the hiring manager had said she wanted to interview me. (Despite this, I still think I’d really like the work and the company. But I kind of need confirmation that they’re actually interested.)
  6. Looked around at a few other companies to see if they had any openings. (They didn’t.)
  7. Watched my yard flood. The ground is saturated. And it used to be a celery field, so it’s pretty mucky to begin with.
  8. Decided that I needed to rethink my planned wardrobe for today’s interview.
  9. Checked to see if I had any new grades posted. (I didn’t. Still waiting on the last two, both of which are a significant portion of the respective class’s final grade.)
  10. Left for my interview. There was a school bus. And a police car. And a ton of traffic.
  11. Still got there about ten minutes early.
  12. Had a decent interview. I’m the first of the candidates they’re interviewing. They hope to make an offer in a couple of weeks. Hopefully I’ll have heard from some of my other top picks by then. This isn’t my dream job, but it is a company that I’d be happy working with.
  13. Texted Nicki from the parking lot as I ate a mini Kind bar.
  14. Picked Anna up from school.
  15. Dinner, screen time, bedtime stories, played a little.
  16. Called my mom to check in.
  17. I’m thinking Call the Midwife is next. Les Miserables might have to wait until tomorrow. My book is getting good. (Okay, it’s been good, but now I’m over 200 pages in…)

Unemployment Day 56

  1. Fairly quiet, normal start to the day. Except for the snow…
  2. Watched the Yoda scenes in The Empire Strikes Back. And the SPOILER ALERT scene. Played with Anna’s lamb and her new unicorn plushy from yesterday’s birthday party.
  3. Went to Costco.
  4. Came home and had lunch.
  5. Quiet time. We both napped.
  6. Walked to my parents’ house. Anna rode her new “bike” (read big wheel AKA Costco splurge from her grandparents). Or rather she rode it, then used it a la velocipede, then walked, then rode a bit more. It was a long quarter-mile walk…
  7. Did some more laundry.
  8. Went to Plainwell Ice Cream to celebrate my parents’ anniversary.
  9. Came home.
  10. A little more screen time. More food for the hobbit. A few snuggles. A bedtime story.
  11. Now for a little telly and reading for me. Interview tomorrow!

Unemployment Day 55

  1. Woke up with a headache.
  2. Took 650mg of acetaminophen and made coffee.
  3. Started the laundry.
  4. Anna got up, too. Way too early.
  5. Headache finally was gone around the time the laundry went into the dryer.
  6. Finished the laundry.
  7. Finished watching The Empire Strikes Back. (I’d share the video of Anna watching the SPOILER ALERT, but I don’t pay for my WordPress site, so I can’t upload videos.)
  8. Took Anna to dance class.
  9. Went back to my parents’ house.
  10. Finished Anna’s laundry.
  11. Came home.
  12. Put laundry away.
  13. Updated my ACEhp profile career type from “not currently working” to “consultant”. Still need to write a new bio, but if anyone is looking for a consultant for their self-study, they might stumble across me.
  14. Went back to my parents’ house.
  15. Reviewed calendars with my mom.
  16. Took Anna to a birthday party.
  17. Had a lovely time chatting with the other mums.
  18. Got ready to come home and discovered that it had indeed, as predicted, started to snow.
  19. Came home.
  20. Watched a little bit of Frozen.
  21. Stitched together the video that I can’t upload to share here.
  22. Anna saw what I was doing and decided we should change movies. She asked to see the SPOILER ALERT scene specifically.
  23. Started watching The Empire Strikes Back. Instead of the originally requested scene, we instead watched Yoda’s scenes.
  24. Anna decided we should stop watching altogether and play. Good plan since it was nearly bedtime and about time to turn it off anyway.
  25. Realized I’d left our backpacks in the trunk.
  26. Threw my fleece on over my pajamas and ran out to the garage to get our backpacks.
  27. The snow is now sticking to the deck. (Fortunately, there is a fully sheltered route from the back door into the garage.)
  28. Played for a few minutes.
  29. Settled Anna for the night.
  30. Got a text from my mom about needing to clean off the car after church.
  31. Chatted briefly with my mom.
  32. It was a full day, but it was all-in-all pretty good. Time for some reading and then we’ll see what tomorrow brings!

Unemployment Day 54

  1. Took Anna to school.
  2. Drove by the location of Monday’s interview to make sure I’d be able to find the designated parking for that building.
  3. Came home.
  4. Brought the trash bin in from the curb.
  5. Turned up the heat on the beans. They were still pretty solid despite having cooked overnight. (They are very old beans.)
  6. I much prefer a bean stew to a bean soup. Even after cooking, it was still too soupy. So I added a cup of wild rice blend and pressure cooked the lot. Made delicious rice and beans.
  7. Brought the recycling bin in from the curb.
  8. Did a bit of work on the porch.
  9. Heard from my mom that my aunt’s bypass surgery went well. (Oh, yeah, that’s a thing in my life right now, too.)
  10. Took a nap.
  11. Gathered up all of the laundry.
  12. Picked Anna up from school.
  13. Went to the library. Anna told the head librarian about how I have socks with Yoda on them but that today I was wearing socks with Storm Troopers. And that we picked out the movie with Yoda. Librarian and I agreed that The Empire Strikes Back is a good movie.
  14. Stopped back at my house en route to my parents’ because I forgot to put their portion of the rice and beans in the car.
  15. Went to my parents’ house.
  16. Had dinner.
  17. Did Anna’s laundry.
  18. Played a game.
  19. Watched the beginning of The Empire Strikes Back. (It was too late to watch the whole movie. Anna is very excited to meet Yoda. We did not get off of Hoth.)
  20. Bedtime story.
  21. And it’s already almost 8:30. I don’t feel like I did much today. There was a stint down a Google rabbit hole of looking for CE jobs I could do remotely. And debating whether I should start a consulting business. And playing solitaire while listening to Feminist Folklore. So it’s about time to take my book to read in bed. Good night, all!

Unemployment Day 53

  1. Took Anna to school. Lambie and burp cloths were successfully found. (They had accidentally been put in the wrong cubby.)
  2. Came home.
  3. Made rice porridge.
  4. Started vegetable stock.
  5. Rendered bacon in the oven.
  6. Called my mom. She’d texted about the Medieval Congress and wanting to go fabric shopping. It seemed easier to respond by calling.
  7. Ate breakfast. (Mmmm…. rice porridge….)
  8. Mowed the lawn.
  9. Had voicemail about scheduling a job interview next week.
  10. Tried to call back. Unable to connect.
  11. Tried to call back. Phone rang. And rang. And rang. And rang. And rang. And rang. And rang. And rang. And did not go to voicemail. And rang. And rang. And rang.
  12. Tried to call back. Phone rang and then cut out.
  13. Showered.
  14. Tried to call back. Got a dial tone when it connected.
  15. Repeat.
  16. Repeat.
  17. Repeat.
  18. Called my mom to let her know I was out of the shower.
  19. Started to wonder if the phone system was down. Did a little down-detector googling. Why, yes, yes it was.
  20. Strained the stock straight into the InstantPot to make bean soup.
  21. Went fabric shopping with my mom.
  22. Came home.
  23. Tried to call back. Finally got through. Interview is scheduled for Monday at 3.
  24. Cleaned up the kitchen.
  25. Stripped Anna’s bed.
  26. Added the beans to the stock and set it to slow cook for a lot of hours. (There’s too much liquid to pressure cook it.)
  27. Took the bins to the curb.
  28. Met up with my parents, and we all went to pick up Anna.
  29. Went to Latitude 42 and met up with Nicki, Brad, and their kids for Dining Out for Life. Lovely dinner, lovely conversation. Nice to be out with friends.
  30. Came home.
  31. A little screen time, a little playing.
  32. Stirred the beans. Set the InstantPot to slow cook overnight.
  33. Started a blog post.
  34. Dealt with the spider that was in Anna’s Playmobil bin. When you’re a single mom, you have to be the one who deals with the spiders.
  35. I’m beat. But I finally have an interview! Not my first choice if I could have my pick of the jobs I’ve applied for, but it’s pretty high up. (And as my mom put it, it’s my top pick of the jobs I’ve been asked to interview for. Kind of like how I’m her favorite daughter.) Here’s hoping I hear from my top pick before I get an offer somewhere else. I’m not in a position to be terribly picky.

Unemployment Day 52

  1. Took Anna to school.
  2. Came home.
  3. Did some more work on the porch. Progress can be seen. More artwork was unpacked. Can’t do much more until after the recycling goes out. There’s not much room left in the bin.
  4. Hung one of the unpacked pictures. As stated a few days ago, I am completely capable of driving nails.
  5. Cleaned the bathroom.
  6. Texted with Nicki.
  7. Went grocery shopping with my mom.
  8. Brought the yard waste bin in.
  9. Watched Frozen.
  10. Bound off a knitting project. Woohoo!
  11. Dealt with the tragedy of lost favorite snugglies. Anna’s two favorite burp cloths and her lamb did not come home from school today.
  12. Now I need to message friends about what Dining Out for Life tomorrow in case they want to meet up for dinner.
  13. Then a little mindless telly and some reading. (You guys, Les Miserables is so well done! Brutal. Hard to watch at times. But so good. So well cast. Seriously will have to reread once I finish my library book. But I already watched this week’s episode. Something mindless sounds like a good idea.)
